Svetlana Abrosimova, the General Manager of the ISBL, has shared her expectations before the exhibition match of the ISBL picked team against the team of the University of South Alabama that will take place in Madrid on July 28, and expressed the thought that student basketball in Russia is getting onto a new level.

The match that European students will play against the team of the University of South Alabama in Madrid in the end of July is a very emotional and important moment for me personally. from my first day at ISBL I have been trying to share my experience and knowledge accumulated during the years I spent playing for Connecticut. Of course it would be of no use to believe that in several years we could reach the same level which NCAA has spent decades to come to. But some certain steps, as I consider, have given positive effect.

I can see that student basketball in Russia is gradually coming to a new level. So, the game against the University of South Alabama will be a kind of an exam for the players, coaches and, of course, to the ISBL itself. Jaguars are a strong team with high-level players. We did not set a task for ourselves to play against Duke, North Carolina or Connectucut at any cost. These teams are super-top, the top of world student basketball.

Now it is important to understand our true level. We need to see players from another system. The coaches will have a very good chance to adopt the best practices, to communicate with American colleagues. I have no doubts that this match will become a very important event in our League history.
